Part III: Prophecies in the Tanach תנך that were Fulfilled at the First Coming of the Messiah ממשיח: The Rejection of the Messiah המשיח

Part III: Prophecies in the Tanach תנך

That Were Fulfilled

At the First Coming of the Messiah

The Rejection of the Messiah

The Messiah המשיח  is the most important person in Jewish history and in world history.  He is the redeemer הגואל of Israel, and of all mankind, therefore he must be described specifically and in detail by the prophets of Israel.  This is one of the tenets of the thirteen declarations or principles of the Jewish faith The sixth principle, or declaration, states:   “I believe with perfect faith that all of the words of the prophets are truth.”

Messiah המשיח is referenced by the Prophets of Israel, the Torah תורה, and in the Writings  כתובים , that is, in the entire Tanach.

The following is a detailed delineation by some of the prophets of Israel, and also throughout the entire Tanach תנך of the life of the Messiah המשיח in the different stages תקופות  from birth to his maturity.  This includes some of his accomplishments.  His primary objective or mitzvah מצוה from HASHEM was the Redemption of Israel, and through extension, the rest of the human race.  In light of this fact, these Hebrew Scriptures are revealed with magnificent importance and significance.

Bless HASHEM.

Let the NAME of the HASHEM be blessed from now and forever.

The Messiah  המשיח is ordained by G-d to sit on the throne of David and to rule over Israel forever.

In order for this to happen, the Messiah המשיח had to solve the problem caused by the sin of Adam.

This sin of Adam or the Yetzer Ha Ra יצר הרע rules by death.  Death had to be destroyed by the Messiah of Israel המשיח של ישראל in order for him to reign on the throne of David forever.  Because all of Israel and the entire human race was under the power of death, the Messiah was sent to be the redeemer – ha Goel הגואל  of His people Israel and then, by extension to the rest of the nations גוים on earth.

This is according to what is written in the Scripture:

He sent redemption to His people;

He commanded His covenant forever;

His name is holy and awesome.

Psalm 111:9

This prophecy gives the order in which HASHEM works in order to establish the kingdom of the Messiah המשיחThe first thing that HASHEM must do is to send redemption.  The Messiah המשיח must redeem Israel.  In order to accomplish this redemption the Messiah המשיח must be without spot or blemish.  First He must keep all the 613 commandments given by HASHEM, and He can never break any one of them.      Second, the Messiah המשיח must become the sacrifice or the Korban קורבן for iniquity.  He must fulfill all the Korbanot קרבנות given by HASHEM through Moses as written in the third book of the Torah, the book of Leviticus ויקרא.

Only then could the Messiah המשיח destroy the government השלטון of sin and the yetzer ha ra יצר הרע which was ruling through the bondage of the power of death, and liberate His people Israel into the freedom of everlasting righteousness and eternal life.

This was foretold by Daniel’s prophecy:

the anointed one will be cut off, and he will be no more

to terminate the transgression

 and to end sin,

 and to expiate iniquity,

 and to bring eternal righteousness

This is also prophesied by Isaiah the Prophet:

And He shall destroy on this mountain the face of the covering that covers all the peoples and the kingdom that rules over all the nations.

He will swallow up death in victory (forever), and the Lord God shall wipe the tears off every face, and the shame of His people He shall remove from upon the entire earth, for the Lord has spoken.

And they shall say on that day, “Behold, this is our God: we hoped for Him that He would save us; this is the Lord for Whom we hoped; let us rejoice and be happy with His salvation-Yeshua.” .

Isaiah 25:7-9

To accomplish this the Messiah המשיח had to fulfill all that was written about him in the Torah, and also that was written about him in the Writings and the Prophets, that is the Tanach התנך.

The Torah lays out these rules for the Passover sacrifice, so the Messiah המשיח had to accomplish this redemption at the feast of the Passover according to these rules.

First: the Messiah המשיח must be without blemish or perfect (Tamim) תמים

You shall have a perfect (tamim) male lamb in its [first] year; you may take it either from the sheep or from the goats.

Second: the Messiah המשיח must be inspected until the fourteenth day:

And you shall keep it for inspection until the fourteenth day of this month

Third:  the Messiah המשיח must be a Korban קרבן, or sacrificed:

and the entire congregation of the community of Israel shall slaughter it in the afternoon.

Fourth: the blood of the Messiah המשיח must be applied to the doorposts (the mazuzot) המזוזות and lintel משקוף of each house in order to be delivered from the power of death:

And they shall take [some] of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel, on the houses in which they will eat it.

And the blood will be for you for a sign upon the houses where you will be, and I will see the blood and skip over you, and there will be no plague to destroy [you]

Exodus 12:5,6,7,13

In order for the Messiah המשיח to become the sacrifice (the Korban) קרבן for the redemption of Israel, he has to be rejected by the rulers of Israel.

The stone that the builders rejected became a cornerstone.

This was from the Lord; it is wondrous in our eyes.

The Prophets of Israel give very extensive and exhaustive descriptions of the rejection of the Messiah המשיח of Israel, and the consequent pain and suffering that he felt.

First the Messiah המשיח was betrayed and attacked by one of his closest friends:

Even my own familiar friend

in whom I trusted, who eats my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

Psalm 41:9

For it was not an enemy who reproached me; then I could bear it. It was not someone who hated me who magnified himself against me; I would have hid myself from him.

But it was you whom I valued as my equal, prince with me, and my esteemed friend.

Together we would devise sweet counsel; in the house of God we would walk with a multitude.

But, as for me, when they were ill, my attire was sackcloth; I afflicted myself with fasting, and may my prayer return upon my bosom. I walked about as though it were a friend or as though it were my own brother; I was bowed with gloom as the mourning of a mother.

You have estranged from me lover and friend;

my acquaintances are in a place of darkness

You have estranged my friends from me.  You have made me an abomination to them. I am imprisoned and cannot go out.

Psalm 88:9

The Messiah המשיח was sold by this friend for a price of 30 pieces of silver.  The friend, when he realized that he was condemned, took the pieces of silver and cast them down upon the floor of the Temple. The chief priests took the money, because they said it was blood money, and instead of putting it back into the treasury, they bought a potter’s field with it.

And I said to them: “If it pleases you, give me my price, and if not, forbear.” And they weighed out My price: thirty pieces of silver.

And the Lord said to me: Cast it to the house of the potter, for the value of the price that I was valued at by them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and I cast them to the potter from the treasury in the House of HASHEM..

The Messiah המשיח is rejected, cast aside, reproached, and gazed upon by family and friends and acquaintances.  He is abandoned by them.

For I have borne humiliation and reproach because of You; disgrace has covered my face.

I was strange to my brothers, and alien to the sons of my mother.

Psalm 69:8-9

As a result of the work of all my tormentors I have become a reproach-and even more to my neighbors.  I am an object of fear to my acquaintances; those who see me outside avoid me.

I was forgotten like a dead person, out of mind; I was cast away like a utensil that was no longer useful.

For I heard the gossip, whispering slander of many, terror is all around me.  When they take counsel together against me; they plotted to take my soul.

All who pass by have plundered him; he was a disgrace to his neighbors.

Psalm 89:42

Those who sit in the gate talk about me..  I am the song of drunkards.

I was a disgrace to them. When they would see me, they would shake their heads.

The Messiah המשיח is plotted against by his enemies.

O G-d, willful transgressors (proud, haughty)  have risen against me, and a company of mighty ones have sought my life, and they did not place You before themselves.

For my enemies said of me, and those who watch for my soul took counsel together,

Saying, “G-d has forsaken him; pursue and seize him, for there is no rescuer.”

All day long they wrest my words. All their thoughts about me are for evil.

They gather themselves together, they hide, and they watch my steps, when they wait to take my life.

Psalm 56:5-6

Save me from workers of iniquity, and rescue me from bloodthirsty men.

For behold, they lurked for my soul; strong men lodge against me, but not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord.

I am without iniquity, yet they run and prepare themselves; awaken towards me and see.

Psalm 59:3-5

The Messiah המשיח is hated WITHOUT A CAUSE.

For without cause they have hidden for me a pit, yea a net; without cause they have dug it for my soul.

Psalm 35:7

Those who hate me without a cause are more numerous than the hairs of my head; mighty are those who would cut me off, who are my enemies because of lies; I even returned that which I did not steal.

Let them not rejoice over me, those who are my enemies without a cause; those who hate me without a cause wink their eyes.

May the willful sinners be shamed for they condemned me falsely; I shall converse about Your precepts.

For the mouth of a wicked man and the mouth of a deceitful man have opened upon me; they spoke with me with a lying tongue.

And with words of hatred they have surrounded me, and they have fought with me without cause.

Instead of my love, they persecute me, but I am at prayer.

They have imposed upon me evil instead of good and hatred instead of my love.

Psalm 109:2-5

The Messiah המשיח experiences the depths of despair, and the fear and horrors of death.

Hearken to me and answer me; I lament in my speech and I moan,

From the voice of the enemy, because of the distress of the wicked; for they accuse me of iniquity and they hate me with a vengeance.

My heart shudders within me, and terrors of death have fallen upon me.

Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overcomes me.

Psalm 55:2-6

I have sunk in muddy depths and there is no place to stand; I have come into the deep water, and the current has swept me away.

I have become weary from calling out; my throat has become parched; my eyes fail while I wait for my God.

The disciples-talmudim תלמודים and the friends of the Messiah המשיח are scattered.

O sword, awaken against My shepherd and against the man who is associated with Me! says the Lord of Hosts. Smite the shepherd, and the flock shall scatter, and I will return My hand upon the little ones.

False witnesses rise up; they ask me of things that I know not.

They recompense me with evil instead of good, death to my soul.

And I was like a lamb and a bull, [that is] brought to the slaughter, and I did not know that they had devised plans about me, “Let us destroy his bread with a tree (cross), and let us cut him off from the land of the living, and let his name no longer be remembered.”

The Messiah המשיח is silent before his accusers.  He does not open his mouth to defend himself.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he would not open his mouth; like a lamb to the slaughter he would be brought, and like a ewe that is mute before her shearers, and he would not open his mouth.

Isaiah 53:7

But I am as a deaf person, I do not hear, and like a mute, who does not open his mouth.

Psalm 38:14

I said, “I will guard my ways from sinning with my tongue; I will guard my mouth [as with] a muzzle while the wicked man is still before me.

I made myself dumb in silence; I was silent from good although my pain was intense.

Psalm 39:2-3

I have become mute; I will not open my mouth because You have done it.

Psalm 39:9

You raised the right hand of his adversaries; You caused all his enemies to rejoice.

You even turned back the sharp edge of his sword, and You did not raise him up in battle.

You have brought an end to his shining, and his throne You have cast down to earth.

You have shortened the days of his youth; You have enwrapped him with shame. Selah

From imprisonment and from judgment he is taken, and his generation who shall tell? For he was cut off from the land of the living; because of the transgression of my people was he altogether stricken.

Isaiah 53:8
