The Time of the Dispersion
Rome waged war against Israel and against the seed of David. After the Romans had destroyed the Temple בית המקדש in Jerusalem in the year 70 C.E., the Emperor Vespasian sought to destroy all the seed of David but HASHEM stopped him. Then 65 years later in 135 C.E., the Emperor Hadrian slaughtered almost all the inhabitants of Judea. He sowed Jerusalem with salt, and erected pagan temples and monuments in the city. He put a perimeter around Jerusalem, and he forbade Jews to cross over to enter into Jerusalem on the pain of death. Some of the children of Israel were left in the land of Israel, but most of them were rooted out of their land and scattered among the nations. In derision to them Hadrian renamed the land of Israel Palaestina in honor of the Philistines who had been the ancient enemies of Israel.
Once Rome had accomplished all these things, the Roman Empire turned its fury against all those who were submitting to the rule of the Messiah of Israel who is seated at the right hand of the throne of HASHEM. This empire was the beast seen by the Prophet Daniel. The vision is also a prophecy of the end of days.
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast,
dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly;
and it had great iron teeth;
it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet;
and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
Daniel 7:7
For 200 years the Romans waged war against all those believers who were following Yeshua ישוע and submitting themselves to the rule of the Messiah of Israel who sits at the right hand of HASHEM. They tried to exterminate them from their empire. With savage cruelty the Romans massacred, butchered, tortured, and mutilated them. They made spectacles of them in the games in the coliseums that they had built in different cities throughout their empire. The Colosseum in Rome had been built by the slave labor of the Jewish captives from the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. In one coliseum in another city the Romans massacred 10,000 believers in one game. Their savagery and ruthless cruelty knew no bounds.
But a strange thing happened. The more the Romans murdered the followers of Yeshua the Messiah of Israel, the more they increased in number. Finally after a succession of ruthless, megalomaniac emperors, the Romans conceded defeat to the Messiah of Israel.
A new emperor arose, Constantine, who ruled from 312 to 337 C.E. He claimed that he saw the sign of the Messiah Yeshua משיח ישוע in the heavens, and that this had caused him to win a decisive battle in 312C.E. The victory in this battle enabled him to become the sole emperor of the Roman Empire.
The Romans changed their tactics. Constantine declared “Christianity” to be the “religion” of the Roman Empire During the almost 200 years of persecution, those people who were submitted to the rule of the Messiah had become known by the Greek name “Christians” which means “little anointed ones.” This name applied to Jews and Gentiles alike. Before Constantine, the Emperor Diocletian had divided the Roman Empire into two parts: A part in the West, and a part in the East. Constantine moved his capital to Byzantium in Asia Minor. He renamed the city Constantinople. Now the Roman Empire had two legs. One leg was the Western Part whose capital city was Rome, and the other leg was the Eastern Part whose capital city was Constantinople. These two legs formed the two legs made of iron of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had seen in a dream that HASHEM had given to him in Babylon. Daniel the Prophet had interpreted this dream.
You, O king, looked, and behold a great image. This image, which was mighty, and whose brightness was surpassing, stood before you; and the appearance of it was terrible.
As for that image, its head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,
its legs of iron, its feet part of iron and part of clay.
And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron; forasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and beats down all things;
and as iron that crushes all these, shall it break in pieces and crush.
Constantine rejected the supernatural G-d of Israel. He did not want to submit to the Messiah of Israel who is sitting at the right hand of HASHEM. He wanted the Greek mind-set, and he exalted the natural mind. He rejected the Torah תורה and regarded it as unimportant. He began to persecute the Jews who believed that Yeshua is the Messiah, and he sought to eliminate them or “purge” them from the “church” and make it totally Gentile. The word “church” originally came from the Greek word ecclesia which means the “called out ones” It referred to both Jews and Gentiles who had submitted to the rule of the Messiah המשיח. Now Constantine wanted it to refer to Gentiles only. This purging of Jews was the first Inquisition.
Constantine also set up hierarchies of government according to Roman structures and Greek patterns. He substituted these for the direct rule of the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע. These hierarchies had two capitals of government. One capital was Rome in Italy, and the other capital was Constantinople in Asia Minor. These two capitals formed the two legs of iron of the Roman Empire. This political system was based on the tree of knowledge of good and evil. It was not based on the rule of the Messiah המשיח. It became imbued and rooted in idolatry. This idolatry finally saturated it like the political-religious system that was in Babylon.
Nimrod נמרוד, the founder of Babylon, had originally set up and established this system of idolatry in his kingdom. Later on the system had been implemented by Nebuchadnezzar.
Not all of the Gentiles walked in the tree of life under the rule of the Messiah המשיח. Many of them chose to stay in the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They did not forsake and depart from their idols. They created religions, doctrines, and ideologies. They worshipped their natural mind and their five senses. They reveled in their accomplishments, and they exalted the knowledge that was acquired by their five senses. They built great cities, and they constructed grandiose monuments and edifices. They garnished them splendidly with admirable artistic works. They worshipped and adored created things, art, creatures, and the works of their own hands. These were clever inventions, and intellectual insights of the natural mind. They ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
The opposing structures of the two iron legs of the Roman Empire
The iron leg in the West was ruled by the city of Rome in Italy. The emperor of the political-religious structure became to be known as the “Pope” or “father.” He gave himself this title because he had presumptuously usurped the position of the rule of the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע. He had presumptuously transferred it to himself. This emperor ruled over the nations in the western part of the empire. He titled it the Roman Catholic Church. The word “catholic” means “universal.” His seat of government in Rome was titled “The Vatican.” Vatican means to prophesy or foresee. It was the name of a hill in Rome where pagan priests would conjure up evil spirits to foretell the future. This “pope” ruled his nations with an iron hand. He had an army of priests under him to carry out his orders. This army enforced the pope’s decrees and make them law. It was called “ecclesiastical” authority. This authority was absolute.
The iron leg in the East was ruled by the city of Byzantium or Constantinople in Asia Minor. This empire became ruled by a Synod of Bishops that usurped the position of the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע. This synod came to be composed of as many as 17 members. It boasted of five main “Patriarchs” or popes. These were from the countries of Bulgaria, Georgia, Serbia, Russia, and Romania. They all rejected the authority of the pope in the western leg or Rome. There was no centralized authority. This caused friction with the “church” in Rome and it led to skirmishes and wars between the two iron legs.
In 476 C.E. the city or Rome was conquered by the barbarian tribe the Visigoths. The western leg of the Roman Empire was overrun by different barbarian tribes. But once they settled in the lands, they were converted by the Roman Catholic Church. The Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament were kept in the Greek and Latin languages. The common people were ignorant of them, so the people were kept under the tight control of the pope who still ruled over them from Rome.
In the eastern leg of the Roman Empire, the city of Constantinople was able to repel the armies of the barbarians. It maintained its rule for almost 1000 years. It repelled all invaders, and even withstood the assaults of the Moslem armies that attacked it until it finally fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1453 C.E. The Byzantine Empire came to an end, but the Eastern Orthodox churches resisted the Moslem incursions. The locus of their power was transferred north to Russia.
In the western leg the empire was plunged into spiritual darkness. This period of darkness is sometimes referred to as the Dark Ages. The Moslem armies invaded the Iberian Peninsula. They rushed through Spain and into France, winning battle after battle. But they were repelled when their armies were finally defeated in a decisive battle in Tours, France in 732 C.E. The general that defeated them was Charles Martel. He stopped the Moslem conquests, and he preserved the power of the pope in Rome. The name of his grandson was Charlemagne. Charlemagne united the diverse tribes and nations of Europe. In 800 C.E. the pope crowned him to be the ruler of the Holy Roman Empire.
During the time of the Dispersion, the children of Israel gathered themselves together in each nation where they had been scattered. They formed their own communities that were centered around scrolls of the Torah תורה, and also the rest of the writings of the Tanach תנך. This helped to keep them separate and free from the pollutions of the idolatries that were practiced by the people who lived around them. While they are scattered among the nations, HASHEM is a sanctuary for them as He had promised by His prophet.
Therefore say: Thus says the Lord GOD: Although I have removed them far off among the nations,
and although I have scattered them among the countries,
yet have I been to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they are come.
The Deception of Religion
A religion is a doctrine that is based on a postulate from which theorems and corollaries are derived. The theorems and their corollaries may be logical, harmonious, and beautiful. As such they appeal to the natural mind. The logic and cohesiveness of the theorems and corollaries as they flow from one another may be very appealing and convincing. The harmony produces a very pleasant aesthetic aspect that is pleasing to the emotions, and pleasant to the natural mind and the soul. This may lead the person contemplating the doctrine to believe that the doctrine is true. However, if the foundational postulate is false, then all the theorems and corollaries, no matter how logical and beautiful they are by themselves, are also false. This is the deception of religion. If the person contemplating the theorems and corollaries does not also examine the postulate to see if it is true, the person can be snared into believing a lie. This is a great danger. If the person, tricked into believing the doctrine, never examines the postulate on which it is based, they continue believing a lie, which has eternal consequences. HASHEM declares:
And for this cause God shall send them a working of error, a strong delusion that they should believe a lie:
that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but have pleasure in unrighteousness.
A good example of this is the doctrine of Islam, or the Muslim “religion.”
Its structure is beautiful and logical in its theorems and its corollaries. It is geometrical. It appeals to the natural mind. Therefore it has many adherents who believe that the doctrine is true. However the Koran, the basic manual of the religion, postulates that Jesus (Yeshua the Messiah המשיח ישוע) never died on a Roman cross and became atonement for the sins of the people. Instead it states that somebody came and took his place. It also postulates that Jesus (Yeshua the Messiah המשיח ישוע) is not the son of G-d, and that anyone who believes that he is the son of G-d will go to hell. However the angel Gabriel גבריאל, when he announced at the birth of Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah, said the exact opposite. The angel Gabriel גבריאל declared that Yeshua (Jesus) shall be called the “Son of the Most High” and that whoever trusts in him will be delivered from hell, inherit eternal life, and go to heaven.
Therefore the postulates that the Moslem religion are based upon are lies, and the whole religion is a doctrine that is a lie.
In addition, the religion also claims to be against idolatry, yet its adherents worship a stone in Mecca that they say fell from heaven. (Actually it was transferred to Mecca from Pergamon in Asia Minor or present day Turkey. The stone was worshipped there by the cult of the goddess Cybele). This is a vain and abominable form of idolatry.
All religions are rooted in idolatry. They are not based upon the plan of the G-d of Israel who says that the earth shall be full of His glory.
The Phases or Ages of the Nations in the Western Iron Leg of the Roman Empire
The pope in Rome held the nations of the western leg under his control with an iron grip. He claimed to have the keys to heaven and hell. The people believed him.
In 1095 Pope Urban II launched the first crusade to take the land of Israel and Jerusalem out of the hands of the Moslems. He wanted to rule not only from Rome, but also from Jerusalem. These crusades were successful until 1291 when finally the Muslim armies regained control.
Events began to loosen the iron grip of the pope. The Crusades brought a new awareness of the children of the East and the profitability of trade with those nations. In 1271 Marco Polo of Venice, Italy discovered the silk route to China. During the 1300’s trade routes were opened to the Far East and Europe. This led to maritime exploration that exploded when Columbus discovered two new continents in 1492. During this time there was a revival among the children of Israel who lived in Spain when the Hebrew version of the book of Matthew was discovered and circulated among them. Many submitted to the direct rule of the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע. Spain became a world power. In about 1450 the Renaissance began in Italy. People began to think for themselves. The control of the pope was gradually loosening.
In 1517 the Reformation began with the challenge of Martin Luther to the authority of the pope. In 1440-1450 Gutenberg had invented the printing press. The Bible began to be translated from Greek and Latin into the common speech of the people. Now people could read the Word of G-d for themselves and realize that they could come under the direct rule of the Messiah Yeshua himself. They did not need the rule of the pope in Rome. He did not have the keys to heaven and hell.
The pope in Rome, the Caesar of the West, responded furiously. He launched the Inquisition from Spain in 1478, and he marshaled his armies of Dominicans and Jesuits to enforce it for 400 years. He tortured and murdered Jews and the true believers who had submitted themselves to the direct rule of the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע. In 1534 Henry VIII, the king of England, broke away from the pope in Rome, and formed his own church, the Church of England. In 1588 the pope sent the Spanish Armada against England, but HASHEM caused them to be defeated. England became a world power.
In those days and also in the periods of time that followed, the nations that had “revival” with large numbers of their people coming under the direct rule of the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע, became world powers because their people were born again and filled with new life.
The societies that were liberated from the yoke of the pope experienced a burgeoning of creativity and they went through different phases. The Scientific Age lasted from about 1500 to 1700 C.E. The Age of Enlightenment lasted from about 1685 through 1815 C.E., and the Industrial Revolution took place from 1760 to 1840 C.E. These movements helped to shape the face of modern western societies.
On the newly discovered continents a new nation was formed in 1776, the United States of America. This nation had laws written into its Constitution that guaranteed the freedom for its citizens to submit to the rule of the Messiah without interference or dictates from governments and potentates. This nation became very powerful.
The Pale of Settlement
Great numbers of the children of Israel were scattered into countries that were located north of the land of Israel. They settled in the lands of these countries. This region became known as the “Pale of Settlement.” The Pale of Settlement included all of modern-day Belarus and Moldova, much of Lithuania and Latvia, the Ukraine, east-central Poland, and parts of Czechoslovakia and Hungary. These countries were located between the two iron legs of the Roman Empire. It was very dangerous to live in the lands of these countries. The two legs of the Roman Empire were at odds with each other. One leg sought hegemony over the other leg. Spontaneous skirmishes, fighting, and even wars broke between them. The people who lived in the lands between them were subject to incursions from the armies of both legs. There was very little predictability to these incursions. There was no certainty of security for the people who lived in these lands. A skirmish or a war could break out at any time. Things could appear to be peaceful for many years, and then suddenly there was violence. Jewish communities were especially vulnerable because they were separate and distinct from the communities that were around them. They were often singled out and subjected to attacks, ravaging, pillaging and murders by the opposing forces of the Roman Empire. These vicious atrocities continued through the centuries of the dispersion and they finally culminated into the Holocaust of World War II. This was foreseen and spoken by the prophet of Israel.
Can iron break iron from the north and brass?
Your substance and your treasures will I give for a spoil without price, and that for all your sins, even in all your borders.
And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying: ‘What do you see?’ And I said: “I see a seething pot; and the face of it is from the north.”
Then the LORD said to me: “Out of the north the evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.”
During the 1800’s, or the nineteenth century, the newly formed nation on the continent of North America became a refuge, a safe-haven, and a land of opportunity. The children of Israel fled to the United States of America in increasing numbers from persecutions that arose in the Pale of Settlement in Europe. The persecutions in that region became increasingly frequent and violent in the latter half of the century.
Also the children of Israel fled to the United States from countries that still implemented the Inquisition of the pope in Rome, and from multiple diverse persecutions in various countries. The Inquisition was outlawed and illegal in the United States. There was freedom of religion that was guaranteed and protected by its Constitution. The children of Israel could gather together and worship freely without any interference or harassment from the government.
The Turning of the Captivity of Jacob
In 1867 the land of Israel had become completely desolate under the rule of the Moslem Ottoman Turks. It was at the height of this desolation that the Scripture was fulfilled, and HASHEM began to turn the captivity of the children of Israel who were in exile among the gentile nations.
And the generation to come, your children that shall rise up after you, and the foreigner that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses wherewith the LORD has made it sick;
and that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and a burning, that it is not sown, nor bears seed and sprouts, nor any grass grows there, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His anger, and in His wrath;
even all the nations shall say “Why has the LORD done thus unto this land? What means the heat of this great anger?”
then men shall say: “
“Because they forsook the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them forth out of the land of Egypt;
and went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods that they knew not, and that He had not allotted unto them;
therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book.”
In 1867 this prophecy in the Torah תורה that HASHEM had given to Moses was fulfilled and a stranger came into the land of Israel and wrote about its desolations. This was published throughout the world. HASHEM THEN BEGAN TO FULFIL THE NEXT PROPHECY.
And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you,
and you shall consider yourself among all the nations, where the LORD your God has driven you,
and shall return to the LORD your God, and listen to His voice according to all that I command you this day,
you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul;
that then the LORD your God will turn your captivity,
and have compassion upon you,
and will return and gather you from all the peoples where the LORD your God has scattered you.
If any of yours that are dispersed be in the uttermost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD your God gather you, and from there will He fetch you.
And the LORD your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed,
and you shalt possess it; and He will do good to you, and multiply you above your fathers.
Deuteronomy 30:1-5
LORD, You have been favorable to Your land,
You have turned the captivity of Jacob.
רָצִיתָ יְהוָה אַרְצֶךָ;
Psalms 85:1
In the 1890’s HASHEM used Theodore Herzl to start the Zionist Movement in Europe. This movement was a proponent for the return of the children of Israel to the land of Israel and the formation of a Jewish State. This movement gained momentum, powered by HASHEM.
The year 1900, the beginning of the 20th century, brought an explosion of creativity, discovery, and witty inventions. The automobile and the airplane were invented. Atomic power was discovered. Electricity and radio waves were being harnessed. The motion picture industry and public entertainment were emerging. New forms of communication were being developed.
HASHEM poured out His Spirit on groups that sought His face, and were submitted to the rule of the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע as He sits on the right hand of the Majesty on High. These groups became free from the fetters of tradition. Revivals sprung up among the people. In 1906 the Azusa Street Revival started in Los Angeles, California in the United States. It spread around the world. HASHEM began to quicken the nine gifts of the Spirit of G-d. Great healing revivals sprung up with signs, and miracles, and wonders. Multitudes of people repented of their idols and turned their hearts to HASHEM, SUBMITTING THEMSELVES TO THE RULE OF THE MESSIAH YESHUA המשיח ישוע. They were born again, and they began to experience the kingdom of HASHEM, BEING FILLED WITH ETERNAL LIFE AND EATING FROM THE TREE OF LIFE.
Then in 1914 war broke out between the two iron legs of the Roman Empire. The war quickly spread around the world. At the end of the war the British armies conquered the Muslim Ottoman Turkish armies, and they seized control of the Middle East. The Middle East was divided up into nations that were given to various Arab tribes. In 1917 the land of Israel was declared by the British in the Balfour Declaration to be the homeland of the Jewish People. HASHEM was turning the captivity of Jacob.
In 1939 a second war broke out between the two iron legs of the Roman Empire. A maniacal Haman-like leader arose and took control of the country of Germany. He started a new religion that went back to the Babylonian structures that had been developed by Nimrod. He named it “Nazi” which is a Hebrew word meaning “to provoke.” He sought to build a superior Aryan race, and he sought to exterminate the children of Israel from every country on the earth. He developed and ignited the horrible Holocaust.
HASHEM defeated him and World War II ended in 1945. In 1948, out of the ashes of the Holocaust, HASHEM caused the nation of Israel to be reborn in the land of Israel. After almost 2000 years of suffering and exile HASHEM was fulfilling the words that He had spoken by His holy prophets. The time of dispersion of His people among the Gentile nations was drawing to a close. HASHEM began to draw His people out of every nation where they had been scattered. He brought them back to the newly revived nation of Israel and to the land that He had promised to their Fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob and to their seed as an inheritance forever.
Therefore, behold, the days come, says the LORD, that they shall no more say: “As the LORD lives, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt,”
But: “As the LORD lives, who brought up and that led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country,
and from all the countries where I had driven them”; and they shall dwell in their own land.
