The Name of the Messiah and His Appearances in the Tanach

The Name of the Messiah

And His Appearances

In the Tanach תנך

The name of the Messiah

was kept secret by HaShem until it was revealed by the angel Gabriel גבריאל

at the time appointed by HaShem.

The time of the coming of the Messiah

was revealed to the prophet Daniel by the angel Gabriel  גבריאל at the command of HaShem:

“While I was still speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I saw in the vision at first, approached me in swift flight about the time of the evening offering. And he enabled me to understand, and he spoke with me, and he said, “Daniel, now I have come forth to make you skillful in understanding.”

And you shall know and understand that from the emergence of the word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem until the Messiah [shall be] seven weeks, and [in] sixty-two weeks it will return and be built street and moat, but in troubled times.

Daniel 9:25

At this appointed time, HaShem sent the same angel Gabriel גבריאל to the young woman named Miriam who was a direct descendant of the line of King David דוד המלך.  Elokim had sent the Holy Spirit רוח הקודש to form the Messiah המשיח in her womb for the birth of a miracle.

At this point in time the angel Gabriel גבריאל at the command of HaShem revealed the name of the Messiah המשיח which up to this point had been kept a mystery.  The Scripture asks us if we know his name.

Who ascended to heaven and descended? Who gathered wind in his fists? Who wrapped the waters in a garment? Who established all the ends of the earth?

What is his name

and what is the name of his son,

 if you know? Proverbs 30:4

Proverbs 30:4

The name of the Messiah המשיח in Hebrew is Yeshua ישועה as was revealed by the Angel Gabriel. But the last letter of the name ה  “heh”  is dropped from the  name.  This is because the Messiah המשיח dropped his divinity as signified by the ה and took on flesh as the seed of David.  The Messiah  המשיחbecame the son of David, the son of Judah, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, that is, the seed of Abraham.

Once his name is revealed, our eyes are opened to new understanding.  We see that he did not begin at Bethlehem, but that he had always been involved with Israel from the beginning.

And you, Bethlehem Ephrathah-you should have been the lowest of the thousands of Judah-from you [he] shall emerge for Me, to be a ruler over Israel;

and his origin and goings forth are from of old, from the ancient days.

Micah 5:2

What are these “goings forth” of the Messiah המשיח that are mentioned by the prophet?

Now we can look at some scriptures from the Tanach and see and behold his goings forth.  These goings forth of the Messiah המשיח are hidden by HASHEM, but they are revealed through a code.

The honor of God is to conceal a matter,

whereas the honor of kings is to search out a matter

Proverbs 25:2

Now that we know the name of the Messiah המשיח we find that the code is unlocked by the Scripture:

The Torah came by Moses

Yeshua  And mercy (grace) and truth by the Messiah

Grace is the Hebrew word mercy chesed חסד which is often translated as kindness or lovingkindness because the meaning of the word chesed חסד

carries all of these overtones.  From this Scripture we see that where the two words mercy and truth חסד ואמת are equivalent to the name of the Messiah. Wherever chesed and emet חסד ואמת  MERCY AND TRUTH are mentioned in the Tanach it is a code referring to the activity or one of the “goings forth” of the Messiah המשיח referred to by the Prophet Micah.

One of these circumstances is when Abraham’s servant seeks a wife for Isaac and he is led to Rebekah.  The servant praises HASHEM and exclaims:

And the man kneeled and prostrated himself to the Lord.

And he said, “Blessed is the Lord, the God of my master, Abraham, Who has not forsaken

His loving kindness (mercy) and His truth

from my master. As for me, the Lord led me on the road to the house of my master’s kinsmen.”

This reveals that the Messiah המשיח is actively helping him find the chosen wife for Isaac.

And the servant of Abraham confirms the help of the Messiah המשיח when he recounts the story to Laban and Bethuel:

And I kneeled and prostrated myself to the Lord, and I blessed the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, Who led me on the true path, to take the daughter of my master’s brother for his son.

And now, if you (the Lord) will do

 loving kindness (mercy)  and truth

with my master, tell me;  and if not, tell me, and I will turn to the right or to the left.”

.

Another circumstance where the Messiah המשיח appears is in the wrestling with Jacob when Jacob prepares to meet his brother Esau.

And Jacob said, “O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, the Lord, Who said to me, ‘Return to your land and to your birthplace, and I will do good to you.’

I have become small from all the kindnesses and from all the truth that You have rendered Your servant, for with my staff I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two camps.

Jacob sees the Messiah המשיח again when he is in Egypt, and the Messiah המשיח appears  when Jacob makes Joseph swear to him that he will bury his body in the cave Machpelah in Hebron and not leave it in Egypt. The Messiah המשיח continues to manifest himself when Jacob blesses the two sons of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh, and later pronounces blessings upon the twelve tribes.

When the time drew near for Israel to die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have now found favor in your eyes, now place your hand beneath my thigh, and you shall deal with me with

mercy  (lovingkindness) and truth;

do not bury me now in Egypt.

I will lie with my forefathers, and you shall carry me out of Egypt, and you shall bury me in their grave.” And he said, “I will do as you say.”

And he said, “Swear to me. ” So he swore to him, and Israel worshipped on the head of the bed.

In another instance, when HASHEM passes before Moses, revealing and displaying His glory, Moses sees the Messiah המשיח while he is hidden and protected in the cleft of the rock.

And the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and He called out in the name of the Lord.

And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed: Lord, Lord, benevolent God, Who is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger

and abundant in mercy (loving kindness) and truth,

Exodus 34:5-6

The Messiah המשיח appears when Rahab by faith makes a covenant with the spies that were sent by Joshua.  The spies promise her by an oath that she and her family will be spared the destruction.  Rahab converts to worship the G-d of Israel, and becomes a forbearer in the line of the Messiah המשיח.

And she said to the men, I know that the Lord has given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have melted away because of you.

For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites that were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you completely destroyed.

And as soon as we heard, our hearts melted, nor did there remain any more spirit in any man because of you, for the Lord your God He is God in heaven above and on the earth below

And now, I pray, swear to me by the Lord, since I have showed you kindness (mercy) , that you will also show kindness (mercy) to my father’s house, and give me a token of truth.

And you shall preserve alive my father, and my mother, and my brothers and my sisters, and all that they have, and you shall deliver our lives from death.

And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if you will not tell this our discussion. And it shall be, when the Lord gives us the land, that we will deal with you with

kindness (mercy) and truth.

Joshua 2:9-14

Again the Messiah המשיח appears and is present when David blesses the men of Jabesh-Gilead for rescuing the bodies of Saul and Jonathan, and of Saul’s other sons from the mockery of the Philistines in Beit Shean, and giving them a proper burial in their own country.

And David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh-Gilead and said to them, “Blessed be you to the Lord that you have performed this kindness with your lord with Saul, that you buried him.

“And now, the Lord show you

 kindness (mercy) and truth,

and also I shall requite you this kindness, that you have done this thing.”

The Messiah המשיח appears as David is fleeing from his son Absalom, when David gives a commission to Ittai the Gittite.

And the king said to Ittai the Gittite; ‘Why do you also go with us? Return, and abide with the king; for you are a foreigner, and if you are wont to wander, [go to] your own place.

Only yesterday you came, and today I should move you about with us, seeing that I go wherever I can go? Return and take back your brothers with you,

The Messiah המשיח appears when Solomon asks HASHEM for wisdom to govern and rule over Israel.

In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.”

And Solomon said, “You have done Your servant David my father great kindness (mercy), as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; and You have kept for him this great kindness (mercy), that You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as (it is) this day.

And your servant (is) in the midst of Your people which you have chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

And your servant (is) in the midst of Your people which you have chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

Give (therefore) Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and bad; for who is able to judge this Your great people?”

I Kings 3:5-9

Solomon was given by HASHEM greater wisdom than any man that had ever been on earth except the Messiah המשיח himself who has greater wisdom.  Solomon was very conscious and very aware of the Messiah המשיח.  He expressed this awareness and this understanding of the Messiah המשיח in three of his proverbs.

In the first of these proverbs Solomon declares and emphasizes with exhortations the keeping, preserving power of the Messiah המשיח because he perceived the unlimited anointing of the Messiah המשיח, because the Holy Spirit רוח הקודש, the Spirit of G-dרוח אלוהים , rested upon and filled the Messiah המשיח without measure.

My son, forget not My instruction, and may your heart keep My commandments;

for they shall add length of days and years of life and peace to you.

Kindness (mercy)  and truth

 shall not leave you; bind them upon your neck, inscribe them upon the tablet of your heart;

and find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Proverbs 3:1-4

Solomon שלומו perceives the Messiah המשיח purges iniquity.

In loving-kindness (mercy)  and truth iniquity will be purged.

Proverbs 16:6

Solomonשלומו  perceives that the Messiah המשיח preserves, establishes, and extends the kingdom of HASHEM.

Kindness (mercy)  and truth

preserve the king, and he supports his throne with kindness (mercy).

Proverbs 20:28

In the Psalms and the Prophets, the attributes of the Messiahהמשיח  are also described.

These are in connection with the kingdom of David which is the kingdom of HASHEM on earth.

The Messiah המשיח is eternal life on the throne of David.  He is the manna from heaven that keeps us.

You will add days to the days of the king,

his years as from  generation to generation.

He shall dwell forever before God;

mercy and truth

  the manna that keeps him.

Psalms 61:7-8

When the Messiah המשיח rules over the land of Israel,  his attributes of mercy and truth shall meet together

Mercy and truth have met;

righteousness and peace have kissed.

The words of Isaiah the prophet confirm this:

I will rejoice with the Lord; my soul shall exult with my God, for He has attired me with garments of salvation, with a robe of righteousness He has enwrapped me; like a bridegroom, who, priestlike, dons garments of glory, and like a bride, who adorns herself with her jewelry.

For, like the earth, which gives forth its plants, and like a garden that causes its seeds to grow, so shall the Lord God cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

The Messiah המשיח nailed all our guilt and condemnation to his own death stake.  Then he rose triumphant over satan and all his minions, principalities, and powers.  He made a show over then openly, triumphing over them all with songs of glory.  Then he ascended, being exalted by HASHEM, through the heavenlies and sits at the right hand of HASHEM.

I shall thank You with all my heart;

before the gods I shall sing Your praises.

I shall prostrate myself toward Your holy Temple,

and I shall give thanks to Your name

for Your mercy and for Your truth,

for You magnified Your word over all Your name.

Psalms 138:1-2

The LORD said to my LORD,

“Sit at My right hand,

until I make your enemies a footstool at your feet.”

Psalms 110:1

Now Psalm 108 reveals that through the ascension of the the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע HASHEM will give the ultimate victory over the nations to Israel, and that HASHEM will rule through the tribes of Israel over the nations of the earth.

For Your mercy is great above the heavens, and Your truth reaches to the skies.

Lift Yourself above the heavens, O Lord, and over all the earth is Your glory.

Again Isaiah the prophet reveals that mercy and truth are the attributes of the Messiah המשיח in the Kingdom of David.

And the throne shall be established

through loving- kindness (mercy),

and he shall sit upon it in truth

in the tent of David,

one who judges and demands justice and performs righteousness.

Isaiah 16:5

Zechariah the prophet also says that the Messiah  הצמחshall also function as a Cohen when he sits upon the throne of David.

And you shall speak to him, saying, “So said the Lord of Hosts, saying: Behold a man whose name is the Branch, who will spring up out of his place and build the Temple of the Lord.

And he shall build the Temple of the Lord, and he shall bear glory. And he shall sit and rule on his throne, and the priest shall be on his throne. And a counsel of peace shall be between them [both].

As a final note, the Prophet Micah declares the Messiah המשיח in the covenant that HASHEM made with our fathers Abraham and Jacob.

You shall give the truth of Jacob, the loving-kindness (mercy) of Abraham, which You swore to our forefathers from days of old.

Micah 7:20
