Psalm 27  תהילים כז     

This psalm declares the method for absolute, complete and total victory over FEAR.  It is a psalm that David the king of Israel composed and framed to give thanks to HASHEM for all the victories that HASHEM gave to him in all the wars that he fought.  It is a psalm about the grace that HASHEM gives in the time of evil.

O God, I shall sing a new song for You;

 with a psaltery and a ten-stringed harp, I shall play music for You.

Who gives salvation to kings,

 Who delivers David His servant from an evil sword.

אֱלֹהִים שִׁיר חָדָשׁ אָשִׁירָה לָּךְ בְּנֵבֶל עָשׂוֹר אֲזַמְּרָה לָּךְ

הַנּוֹתֵן תְּשׁוּעָה לַמְּלָכִים

הַפּוֹצֶה אֶת דָּוִד עַבְדּוֹ מֵחֶרֶב רָעָה

The psalm has seven parts. Before the seven parts there is an introductory chorus composed of two lines which is sung by the Levites in the Temple in Jerusalem.  These two lines form a couplet, and this couplet constitutes the chorus פזמון חוזר which is sung by the Levites at the end or conclusion of each of the seven parts of the psalm. The couplet starts with the name of HASHEM.  This is immediately followed by the sounding blast or volley of trumpets.  The blowing of trumpets also occurs in several of the parts of the psalm.  Trumpets were used in monarchies to announce the arrival of the king.  They declare the majesty of the royal attributes of the potentate. We see this happening in the chorus or peezmon פזמון when we examine it:

Verse 1a (Line 1)

HASHEM (volley of trumpets) is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

{קול חצצרות} יהוה

 אוֹרִי וְיִשְׁעִי מִמִּי אִירָא

The attributes of the king follow the sounding of the trumpets.  First, He is my light אורי. Second, the psalm names Him – Yeshua ישוע –my Salvation—that is, the one who saves me and gives me victory in war.  These are the two most important elements in battle: First—have the light—that is the knowledge of the correct strategy to win.  Second—the assurance of victory because the Messiah המשיח is fighting for you.  This assurance takes away ALL FEAR.  You are able to declare “of whom shall I be afraid” ממי אירא .

The Torah התורה makes reference to this in the fifth book Deuteronomy דברים:

When you go out to war against your enemies, and you see horse and chariot, a people more numerous than you, you shall not be afraid of them, for the Lord, your God is with you Who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

And it will be, when you approach the battle that the kohen shall come near, and speak to the people.

And he shall say to them, “Hear, O Israel, today you are approaching the battle against your enemies. Let your hearts not be faint; you shall not be afraid, and you shall not be alarmed, and you shall not be terrified because of them.

For the Lord, your God, is the One Who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

כִּי תֵצֵא לַמִּלְחָמָה עַל אֹיְבֶךָ וְרָאִיתָ סוּס וָרֶכֶב עַם רַב מִמְּךָ לֹא תִירָא מֵהֶם כִּי יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ עִמָּךְ הַמַּעַלְךָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם

וְהָיָה כְּקָרָבְכֶם אֶל הַמִּלְחָמָה וְנִגַּשׁ הַכֹּהֵן וְדִבֶּר אֶל הָעָם

וְאָמַר אֲלֵהֶם שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל אַתֶּם קְרֵבִים הַיּוֹם לַמִּלְחָמָה עַל אֹיְבֵיכֶם

אַל יֵרַךְ לְבַבְכֶם אַל תִּירְאוּ וְאַל תַּחְפְּזוּ וְאַל תַּעַרְצוּ מִפְּנֵיהֶם

כִּי יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם הַהֹלֵךְ עִמָּכֶם לְהִלָּחֵם לָכֶם עִם אֹיְבֵיכֶם לְהוֹשִׁיעַ אֶתְכֶם

 Verse 1b (Line 2)

The second line of the couplet starts again with the holy name of HASHEM.

HASHEM is the stronghold of my life;

 Of whom shall I be afraid?

יְהֹוָה

  מָעוֹז חַיַּי מִמִּי אֶפְחָד

This line declares that HASHEM imparts the strength of life מעוז חי  to fortify and to infuse the body of the warrior with His Power, and to give indomitable courage to his heart.  This makes you impregnable to any appearance of power of the enemy that could intimidate you or cause you to be afraid. ממי אפחד

Because the complete couplet has such tremendous power, it is repeated at the conclusion of each of the seven sections of the psalm.  Here is the chorus or peezmon פזמון in its entirety:

HASHEM (volley of trumpets) is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

HASHEM is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

{קול חצצרות} יהוה

 אוֹרִי וְיִשְׁעִי מִמִּי אִירָא

 מָעוֹז חַיַּי מִמִּי אֶפְחָד יהוה

Part I

Verse 2

When evildoers draw near to me (a blast of trumpets) to devour my flesh,

My adversaries and my enemies against me-

They stumbled and fell.

 {קול חצצרות}     בִּקְרֹב עָלַי

 מְרֵעִים לֶאֱכֹל אֶת בְּשָׂרִי

 צָרַי וְאֹיְבַי לִי

 הֵמָּה כָּשְׁלוּ וְנָפָלוּ

We must remember that David composed this psalm to celebrate the fact that HASHEM had given victory in all his battles and wars.  This verse shows how appallingly wicked were his enemies when it states that they approached him to eat his flesh.  They were so crazed with blood lust that they had become cannibalistic and totally evil.  This kind of situation is mentioned in Psalm 136.  Israel fought against Sihon, the king of the Amorites, and also against Og, the king of Bashan.  These were men of great stature.  Their height ranged from twelve to fourteen feet.  They were trained for battle from their youth, and they were masters in the art of war. They had great armies behind them, and their appearance struck terror into the hearts of all who beheld them.  The next verse describes their implacable and fierce nature when it says “my adversaries (opponents) צרי and my enemies אויבי לי.”  As they approached Israel to battle, SUDDENLY HASHEM intervened from heaven.  Before these wicked enemies could reach David or Israel, who were tiny in comparison, as they approached, HASHEM caused them to STUMBLE and they FELL helpless to the ground.  The predators became the prey.  Israel and David could easily smite them as they lay prostrate, helpless on the ground.  The trumpet blast is given at the beginning of this verse to show that HASHEM was ready to intervene as they approached.

To Him Who smote great kings, for His kindness is eternal.

And slew mighty kings, for His kindness is eternal.

Sihon the king of the Amorites, for His kindness is eternal.

And Og the king of Bashan, for His kindness is eternal.

לְמַכֵּה מְלָכִים גְּדֹלִים כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ

וַיַּהֲרֹג מְלָכִים אַדִּירִים כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ

לְסִיחוֹן מֶלֶךְ הָאֱמֹרִי כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ

וּלְעוֹג מֶלֶךְ הַבָּשָׁן כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ

Verse 3

In the next verse, Israel is empowered by the overwhelming strength of HASHEM.

If a camp (the sounding of trumpets) encamps against me, my heart shall not fear;

if a war should rise up against me, in this I trust.

  {קול חצצרות}  אִם תַּחֲנֶה עָלַי

מַחֲנֶה לֹא יִירָא לִבִּי

אִם תָּקוּם עָלַי מִלְחָמָה בְּזֹאת אֲנִי בוֹטֵחַ

The trumpets are sounded to indicate that the presence of HASHEM is inspiring confidence, and extinguishing fear. Even though I see the multitudes encampאם תחנה  against me עלי, the volley of the trumpets alerts me to the majestic presence of HASHEM. When I see the enemy spread out before me מחנה, the overwhelming presence of HASHEM causes my heart to hope and erases all fear.  Even though war rises up against me in its ugly specter, I will be confident as my heart rests in Him.

At this point the first part is completed, and the Levites burst in singing the chorus, the peezmon פזמון accompanied by the flair of the trumpets.  The chorus acts as a confirmation or seal of what just happened.

Part II

The second part or stanza is so powerful that it is entered into with the blast of the trumpets.  Right after the first word “One thing” אחת    the trumpets are sounded!  This keta קטע or musical stanza בית is so magnificent that it can be sung as second refrain פזמון to the chorus after the Levites have just finished singing.

One thing {sound of trumpets} I ask of the Lord, and that I seek after

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,

 to behold the pleasant beauty of the Lord

 and to inquire early in His Temple.

   {קול חצצרות} אחת

שָׁאַלְתִּי מֵאֵת יְהֹוָה אוֹתָהּ אֲבַקֵּשׁ

שִׁבְתִּי בְּבֵית יְהֹוָה כָּל יְמֵי חַיַּי

  לַחֲזוֹת בְּנֹעַם יְהֹוָה וּלְבַקֵּר בְּהֵיכָלוֹ

This second part declares the place of dwelling in HASHEM.  This place is such a place of power that it is specifically declared in the 91st Psalm.  It gives us a secret resting place of abiding safety and protection with HASHEM in the time of battle or in any other time of danger.

Because you have made HASHEM, who is my refuge,

Even the MOST HIGH, your dwelling place,

No harm or accident will befall you,

neither will any plague draw near to your tent.

כִּי אַתָּה יְהֹוָה מַחְסִּי עֶלְיוֹן שַׂמְתָּ מְעוֹנֶךָ

לֹא תְאֻנֶּה אֵלֶיךָ רָעָ

   וְנֶגַע לֹא יִקְרַב בְּאָהֳלֶךָ

Psalm 91:9-10  תהלים צא: ט-י

He also declares with the blast of the trumpets:

A thousand will fall (trumpets volley) at your side,

and ten thousand at your right hand;

but it will not approach you.

Only you will gaze with your eyes,

 and you will behold the annihilation (reward) of the wicked.

   {קול חצצרות} יִפֹּל מִצִּדְּךָ

 אֶלֶף וּרְבָבָה מִימִינֶךָ אֵלֶיךָ לֹא יִגָּשׁ

רַק בְּעֵינֶיךָ תַבִּיט וְשִׁלֻּמַת רְשָׁעִים תִּרְאֶה

Psalm 91:7-8 תהלים צא:ז-ח     

This Part II or stanza contains the phrase “all the days of my life” .כָּל יְמֵי חַיַי.     This phrase is part of the special distinction that makes it a song in itself that was sung by the Levitical choir.

“all the days of my life”  .כָּל יְמֵי חַיַי means that even if I were to die in battle, my soul is still ensconced in the beauty of the anointing of the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע, in the presence of HASHEM.  But there is no defeat even in death, because the resurrection is always present, and the beauty of the LORD and His shining face and His surrounding glory comforts us and makes us secure.

This part II expresses the true longing of every Jew.  It is the intense desire to be in the anointing and the presence of HASHEM.  The trumpet sounds to declare the desire of our heart. It is to behold the face of the Messiah Yeshua, and with our face open to be changed into His beauty and glory. This culminates and climaxes in the day of battle, when HASHEM suddenly appears on the scene and renders our enemies helpless.  This is expressed in Psalm 91:

For he yearns for Me and has set his desire upon me, I shall rescue him;

I shall fortify him and set him on high, because he knows My name.

He will call Me (the trumpets sound) and I shall answer him;

I am with him in distress;

 I shall rescue him and I shall honor him.

כִּי בִי חָשַׁק וַאֲפַלְּטֵהוּ אֲשַׂגְּבֵהוּ כִּי יָדַע שְׁמִי

{קול חצצרות}  יִקְרָאֵנִי

 וְאֶעֱנֵהוּ עִמּוֹ אָנֹכִי בְצָרָה

 אֲחַלְּצֵהוּ וַאֲכַבְּדֵהוּ

Psalm 91:14-15  תההלים יד-טו     

The next verse declares the glory of the resurrection.  Length of days is the eternal life of the resurrection.  In it we will be showcased in the glory of the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע .  In other words, our mortal bodies will be changed into the likeness of His resurrection body.

With length of days I shall satiate (satisfy) him,

and I shall show him My Salvation-Yeshua ישוע.

אֹרֶךְ יָמִים אַשְׂבִּיעֵהוּ

   וְאַרְאֵהוּ בִּישׁוּעָתִי

Psalm 91:16  תהלים טז     

The glory of HASHEM in the Temple is so strong that it imbues the very vessels of the Temple, so that they shine forth the beauty of His holiness.  This is why it is written:  “Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.”

Give to HASHEM, you sons of the mighty; prepare for HASHEM glory and might.

give to HASHEM the glory due His name; worship HASHEM in the beauty of holiness

הָבוּ לַיהֹוָה בְּנֵי אֵלִים

 הָבוּ לַיהֹוָה כָּבוֹד וָעֹז

הָבוּ לַיהֹוָה כְּבוֹד שְׁמוֹ

 הִשְׁתַּחֲווּ לַיהֹוָה בְּהַדְרַת קֹדֶשׁ

Psalm 29:1-2  תההלים כט:א-ב            

At this point the Levitical choir with the sound of the trumpets {קול חצצרות} sings the refrain הפזמון at the beginning of the psalm.

HASHEM (volley of trumpets) is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

HASHEM is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

{קול חצצרות} יהוה

 אוֹרִי וְיִשְׁעִי מִמִּי אִירָא

 מָעוֹז חַיַּי מִמִּי אֶפְחָד יהוה

Part III

Now we are completely devoid of fear.  Then comes the great declaration of faith  “Because He will hide Me {with a celebration of blasts of the trumpets} כִּי יִצְפְּנֵנִי.  This declaration of confidence shouts that HASHEM will place us not in just any tabernacle or sukkah, but into HIS VERY OWN TABERNACLE, OR PERSONAL SUKKAH.  The first and last Hebrew letters of the two words “in His tabernacle in the day”   םכּוֹ בְּיוֹסֻ or “sam”  סם reveal the healing presence of HASHEM סם חיים, and that HASHEM HIMSELF does the placing in the day of evil.  Often when I am in danger, His SUKKAH סֻכּוֹ will suddenly appear, and He hides me in His secret place יַסְתִּירֵנִי בְּסֵתֶר אָהֳלוֹ so that I am not harmed.  I am made invisible and the evil passes by me without touching me.  Not only that happens, but the Rock הצור who is the Messiah המשיח appears, and He lifts me up above all the power and might of my enemies. This is encapsulated in the Hebrew phrase בְּצוּר יְרוֹמְמֵנִי (He lifts me up on the Rock).  The firm immovableness of the Rock הצור supports my feet as I am lifted up, so then wonderfully my head is above all those armies that are surrounding me. וְעַתָּה יָרוּם רֹאשִׁי עַל אֹיְבַי סְבִיבוֹתַי.  I am untouchable in valor, and the thrill of victory is in my mouth.  I offer to HASHEM the sacrifice of the praise of my lips in the safety of His tabernacle.  My mouth is like a shofar וְאֶזְבְּחָה בְאָהֳלוֹ זִבְחֵי תְרוּעָה.  Then I begin to sing to HASHEM with beautiful melodies. אָשִׁירָה וַאֲזַמְּרָה לַיהֹוָה.  They flow out of my heart and my mouth like a river that gushes forth in gratitudes.

That He will hide me (voice of trumpets)

 in His tabernacle on the day of calamity;

 He will conceal me in the secrecy of His tent;

 He will lift me up on a rock.

And now, my head will be raised over my enemies around me,

 and I will sacrifice in His tent sacrifices with joyous song;

 I will sing and make melody in praise to the Lord.

כִּי יִצְפְּנֵנִי {קול חצצרות} כִּי יִצְפְּנֵנִי

בְּסֻכּוֹ בְּיוֹם רָעָה

 יַסְתִּירֵנִי בְּסֵתֶר אָהֳלוֹ

  בְּצוּר יְרוֹמְמֵנִי

וְעַתָּה יָרוּם רֹאשִׁי עַל אֹיְבַי סְבִיבוֹתַי

 וְאֶזְבְּחָה בְאָהֳלוֹ זִבְחֵי תְרוּעָה

 אָשִׁירָה וַאֲזַמְּרָה לַיהֹוָה

Part IV

At this point after the refrain  הפשמוןwith the trumpet blast of the Levites, the psalm takes a turn in a different direction.  HASHEM has secured my victory over my external enemies. Now I turn my attention to a more subtle enemy.  It is an enemy that lies within me; it lurks there and it is ensconced, disguised with all manner of subterfuges.  When I perceive these invidious internal enemies, crouching and hiding within, I cry out to HASHEM.  The trumpets sound the alarm with their vollies. “Hear O LORD, with my voice I cry out, answer me and have grace upon me.”

שְׁמַע יְהֹוָה קוֹלִי אֶקְרָא וְחָנֵּנִי וַעֲנֵנִי. I am startled by this subtle and deadly enemy.  It disguises itself as my familiar friend.  But it hides in the shadows of my soul where I hardly perceive it, waiting and ready at its most opportune time to spring upon me to destroy me.  It is the most deadly enemy of all.  It is the yetzer ha ra יצר הרע, the sin nature, the flesh, the Trojan horse, the fifth column.  I call upon you, HASHEM, to have grace upon me, answer me, and rescue me from this deadly evil.

HASHEM answersand speaks {קול חצצרות} to my heart.

TO YOU  {קול חצצרות}  לְךָ

The trumpets sound to prepare for war.  HASHEM says:

Seek my face.  בַּקְּשׁוּ פָנָי

My heart responds to His command, His mitzvah מצוה:

Your face, HASHEM, will I seek!  אֶת פָּנֶיךָ יְהֹוָה אֲבַקֵּשׁ

I respond to His command because I see that herein lies the salvation:  that herein lies the deliverance that will rescue me from the dangerous dilemma of the enemy that lurks and prowls within myself.  The Scripture confirms the answer because it says that when we behold His face, the glory in the loving face of the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע.  He changes us into His image, by the Spirit of the LORD רוח יהוה as we behold His glory.  The lurking enemy is vanquished and eliminated!  At this point the Levitical choir breaks in with the sound of the trumpets, singing the chorus הפזמון.

Hearken, O Lord, to my voice as I call out,

and be gracious to me and answer me.

TO YOU, (the trumpets sound for war)

You say to my heart: “Seek My face.”

My hear says:

 Your face, O Lord, I will seek.

שְׁמַע יְהֹוָה קוֹלִי אֶקְרָא

  וְחָנֵּנִי וַעֲנֵנִי

{קול חצצרות}   לְךָ

אָמַר לִבִּי בַּקְּשׁוּ פָנָי

אֶת פָּנֶיךָ יְהֹוָה אֲבַקֵּשׁ

Part V

I now realize the immense value and power of the presence of  HASHEM.  I cry out to HASHEM to never hide His face (the trumpets sound their volley) FROM ME.

Do not hide Your face (trumpet volley) FROM ME

 ממני  {קול חצצרות} אַל תַּסְתֵּר פָּנֶיךָ

Since my ONLY SECURITY and VICTORY is in HASHEM, I cry to Him not to put me away from Him, for He ONLY is my helper.

Do not turn Your servant away with anger. You were my help.

אַל תַּט בְּאַף עַבְדֶּךָ עֶזְרָתִי הָיִיתָ

The Messiah המשיח is my dwelling place.  I cry for Him not to leave me or forsake me, for He is my salvation.

Do not forsake me and do not abandon me, O God of my salvation.

אַל תִּטְּשֵׁנִי וְאַל תַּעַזְבֵנִי אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׁעִי

The Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע  speaks to my heart that He will never leave me nor forsake me.  I recall the Song of Moses at the Sea:

The Eternal is my strength and my song.  He is become my salvation;

this is my God, and I will make Him a habitation,

 my God, my Father, and I will exalt Him

עָזִּי וְזִמְרָת יָהּ וַיְהִי לִי לִישׁוּעָה

 זֶה אֵלִי וְאַנְוֵהוּ

 אֱלֹהֵי אָבִי וַאֲרֹמְמֶנְהוּ

Exodus 15:2  שמות טו:ב      

And again the Word of the LORD declares in another place:

For (the blowing of the trumpet) the Lord will not forsake His people,

 nor will He desert His inheritance.

 {קול חצצרות} כִּי

 לֹא יִטֹּשׁ יְהֹוָה עַמּוֹ

 וְנַחֲלָתוֹ לֹא יַעֲזֹב

Psalm 94:14  תהלים צד:יד     

The Messiah המשיח assures me that even if my father and my mother forsake me, He will take me up in His arms.  He is the great shepherd.

For when my father and my mother have forsaken me, the Lord will gather me in.

כִּי אָבִי וְאִמִּי עֲזָבוּנִי וַיהֹוָה יַאַסְפֵנִי

At this point the Levites sing the refrain הפזמון with the sound of the trumpets.

Do not hide Your face (trumpets sound) from me;

do not turn Your servant away with anger. You were my help;

 do not forsake me and do not abandon me, O God of my salvation.

For my father and my mother have forsaken me,

 but the Lord gathers me in.

 ממני   {קול חצצרות} אַל תַּסְתֵּר פָּנֶיךָ 

 אַל תַּט בְּאַף עַבְדֶּךָ עֶזְרָתִי הָיִיתָ

    אַל תִּטְּשֵׁנִי וְאַל תַּעַזְבֵנִי אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׁעִי

כִּי אָבִי וְאִמִּי עֲזָבוּנִי וַיהֹוָה יַאַסְפֵנִי

Part VI

Now I am ready for HASHEM to teach me His way as a father teaches his son.

I am ready for Him to cause me to rest in His plain path.

Instruct me, O Lord, in Your way, and lead me in the plain (straight) path

הוֹרֵנִי יְהֹוָה דַּרְכֶּךָ וּנְחֵנִי בְּאֹרַח מִישׁוֹר

 The path has to be plain because of my enemies who are watching me.  They stare at me. שׁוֹרְרָי

Because of those who lie in wait for me

לְמַעַן שׁוֹרְרָי

They enviously and maliciously seek out my flaws and scrutinize my ways.  They search for any weakness that they can exploit in order to gain the advantage over me.  But there is safety when I walk in the way of the LORD.

I call upon the LORD not to give me into their souls’ desires and their malignant devices.

Do not deliver me to the desires of my adversaries

אַל תִּתְּנֵנִי בְּנֶפֶשׁ צָרָי

They want to put me into a narrow place so that they can destroy me.  They rise up like a puffing adder, breathing out lies, and puffing violence, seeking to sink their fangs of poisonous condemnation into my flash and conscience so that I lose strength from their condemning mouths and wither away into the death of guilt.

for false witnesses and speakers of evil have risen against me.

כִּי קָמוּ בִי עֵדֵי שֶׁקֶר וִיפֵחַ חָמָס

But there is no condemnation for me in the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע for He has cleansed my conscience of all guilt by His blood, because He has paid the price for me.  At this point the Levitical chorus sings, the trumpets ring in my ears, and I am not afraid.

Instruct me, O Lord, in Your way,

 and lead me in the straight path

because of those who lie in wait for me.

Do not deliver me to the desires of my adversaries,

 for false witnesses and speakers of evil have risen against me.

הוֹרֵנִי יְהֹוָה דַּרְכֶּךָ

וּנְחֵנִי בְּאֹרַח מִישׁוֹר

 לְמַעַן שׁוֹרְרָ

אַל תִּתְּנֵנִי בְּנֶפֶשׁ צָרָי

כִּי קָמוּ בִי עֵדֵי שֶׁקֶר וִיפֵחַ חָמָס

Part VII

My faith rebounds in HASHEM.  I am not dismayed. I know that there is no condemnation for me because I am in the Messiah Yeshua המשיח ישוע.  His blood is the Kaparah כפרה that has removed all sin from me, and has cleansed all guilt from my soul.  My soul rebounds in hope to the goodness of HASHEM in the resurrection of the dead, in the land of the living, not only now, but in the age to come.

Had I not believed in seeing the good of the Lord in the land of the living!

לוּלֵא הֶאֱמַנְתִּי לִרְאוֹת בְּטוּב יְהֹוָה בְּאֶרֶץ חַיִּים

I gather my soul together to hope and to wait upon HASHEM.

Hope for the Lord.

קַוֵּה אֶל יְהֹוָה

I hope for His aid at all times, and I do not pay any attention to the threats of my enemies. This is so different from hoping in the aid of man.  Heartache, disappointment, and disillusionment are the lot of those who are dependent upon people. But placing one’s hope in HASHEM and His promises is exhilarating and brings renewed strength! At this point HASHEM commands us to be strong.  When I gird up the loins of my body and my mind, and I do this, He will give me assistance and encourage my heart.  He who strengthens his faith is helped by G-D.

Be strong and He will give your heart courage

חֲזַק וְיַאֲמֵץ לִבֶּךָ

In this place of power and encouragement, the exhorting command is given again.

Hope in the Lord, and wait for Him.

וְקַוֵּה אֶל יְהֹוָה

Again I hear the chorus of the Levites introduced by the blowing of the trumpets.  There is no fear in my heart. I am full of the JUBILANCE OF VICTORY, AND OF THE SPIRIT OF MY LORD!
